IEEE SOCA 2013 Conference at Poipu Beach, Kauai, December 16-18

IEEE International Conference on Service Oriented Computing & Applications (SOCA 2013) provides an international forum for researchers from multiple disciplines to exchange and share their experiences, ideas, and latest research results on all aspects of service-oriented computing. Papers from industry in services science are also welcome.


The submission deadline has been extended to Aug. 5 (Abstract) and Aug. 10 (Paper)

Mentoring Opportunitities in the IEEE


  • Become a Student Branch Mentor.  We have two student branches, i.e., UH-Manoa and UH-Maui. Each needs a Student Branch Mentor. Read about the responsibilities and contact the Hawaii Section Chair for more information.
  • Become a mentor to recent graduates, new professionals or professionals making a career change. This is done through the IEEE Mentor Center.

Topic: Advanced Analytics – The next frontier for innovation and STEM jobs
The amount of information available via the Internet and social media is exploding and this trend is expected to continue. According to IBM, structured data constitutes only 20% of the overall data produced. Remaining 80% of the data is unstructured or semi structured. According to a report published by McKinsey Global Institute, there will be a shortage of talent necessary for organizations to take advantage of this data. McKinsey Global Institute predicts that by 2018, the United States alone could face a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 workers and 1.5 million managers and analysts that need analytics expertise. This presentation will cover 1. Why is advanced analytics the hottest STEM topic? 2. What is the current status of advanced analytics? 3. What are the future perspectives of advanced analytics?
Biography: Kishore Erukulapati works as a senior Information Technology (IT) Consultant in the IT division of a major health insurance company in Honolulu, HI. He is an IT professional with 16 years of experience. He gained global and diverse experience by working in the USA, the UK, Germany and India.

Kishore has a Bachelor of Technology degree in computer science and engineering and a Master of Science degree in quality assurance. He is working towards a PhD in Technology Management degree.

Kishore holds various certifications through numerous professional bodies, all of which underscore his desire to be well connected to technical aspects of his diverse work in quality, professionally. He recently received the “Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence” certification from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and “Certified Senior Technology Manger” certification from the Association of Technology, Manufacturing, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). He is a senior professional member of ASQ and is a professional member of IEEE and ATMAE. He is serving as an acting secretary of IEEE Hawaii chapter.

2013 SOSE Conference

IEEE System, Man, and Cybernetics Society and IEEE Reliability Society announce the 8th International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) with its vast ramifications in numerous engineering fields such as control, computing, communication, information technology and in applications such manufacturing, defense, national security, aerospace, aeronautics, energy, environment, healthcare, and transportation. The conference theme is “SoSE in Cloud Computing and Emerging Information Technology Applications”,  two areas of significant investment within the public and private sectors as well as being significant initiatives areas of IEEE.
